My name is Matthew Quinn Spangler, otherwise known as Matt, my middle name came from the actor Anthony Quinn, I guess my mom was a big fan. I was born in San Diego, CA in 1978 and spent my whole childhood in the sleepy hippy town of Leucadia, CA . I have always been curious about electronics since I was a kid, my mom used to give me broken (and sometimes not) clocks, radios, electronics, and let me to take them apart and see how things worked. Of course I could never put them back together, but the curiosity turned me into a full time tech geek and robot fan.
My artwork is inspired by many things I have encountered throughout my life. I grew up with a lot of different animals, from a crow my mom rescued, to a 6 foot iguana from the San Diego Zoo, and even a baby skunk, I was around it all. When you spend as much time as I did around such a diverse group of animals, you begin to really see each animals personality. In each one of my pieces I try and portray the same personality as I saw in the herd growing up.
I graduated from Cal State University Fullerton in 2002 in Entertainment Arts, after that I moved to LA and began to freelance Illustrate and start my artistic career.
Today I own a small apparel company called LUNARC that uses my artistic creations and puts them on eco-friendly clothing and baby clothes. I also do commissioned baby paintings for expecting parents. I currently live in downtown San Diego with my wife Megan and my dog Sydney.
